Canton Community Resources: Museums, Art, & Culture

Operated in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Blue Hills Trailside Museum features a natural history museum, which includes indoor and outdoor exhibits of non-releasable native wildlife that would not survive in the wild.

The Society has been collecting Canton's History since 1898. Our collections begin with artifacts from the late 1600's through today. Highlights of our collection include a strong understanding of industry, military conflicts and daily life in Canton, Massachusetts. We are a non-profit museum and educational institution dedicated to preserving our history and place.

Stroll through elegant gardens complementing a stately country house, then explore surrounding fields, pastures, and woodlands that echo the property’s agricultural past.

Founded in 1989 to celebrate Irish culture and heritage in the Greater Boston Area, the 46-acre campus consists of four athletic fields, a large patio area with a three-season marquee tent, and a main building that features offices, a performance area, function space, a resource library, and a pub restaurant.

The Milton Art Museum at Massasoit houses a permanent collection of fine art, limited prints, sculpture, photography, and Asian art. We're proud to have names like Remington, Chagall, and Dali right here in our neighborhood. Revolving exhibitions feature local and national professional artists as well as students of all levels. Festive opening receptions showcase local musical talent and provide an opportunity for museum visitors, friends, and colleagues to enjoy and learn about the many forms of art.

The Museum of American Bird Art (MABA) Education Center connects people with nature through art. Located on a beautiful 121-acre property, the MABA Education Center offers art-inspired educational programs for people of all ages.

Please note: The public gallery is closed. We have transitioned the gallery building into our new creative arts space, The Nest, while we work on designing a new permanent home for our art collection.

The Paul Revere Museum of Discovery & Innovation will be a unique forum for history, technology, and learning. The Museum is currently under development on the grounds of the Paul Revere Heritage Site – nine acres of parkland along the Neponset River. The site features waterfalls, a mill pond, walkways with interpretive signage and two 19th century buildings – the Copper Rolling Mill and the Historic Horse Barn, built by Paul Revere’s son. The property is currently owned by the Town of Canton.

Pequitside Farm is 33 acres of open space located on Pleasant Street owned and managed by the Canton Conservation Commission. The property is open to the public and contains walking trails, the Canton Conservation Community Gardens, a playground, and picnic areas.

Located in Canton's only National Historic District, the Tilden House is the oldest contributing building, and one of the first surviving houses built in what is now Canton. Preservation efforts are underway to protect and preserve this unique American home.

The Canton American Legion Community Band was originally organized in the fall of 1927, about eight years after World War I.
As a community band, everyone is welcome. The only requirement then, and now, is that you enjoy band music and want to participate.
The Canton Band members are from all around eastern Massachusetts. The musicians meet every Thursday, year-round, to play all kinds of music, - pop show tunes, big band arrangements, classical favorites, marches, rags, and cakewalks from the days when small town bands were popular.

The Canton Choral Society is a non-profit, community-focused organization open to adult residents of Canton and surrounding towns. The Society is dedicated to fostering enthusiasm and accessibility to a variety of music types. Founded in 2003 by Crosby Goshgarian Jr., the Society has performed at numerous public and private events as well as hosting their own Winter Holiday and Spring Pops Concerts.

The Canton Community Theatre was organized for the benefit of members of the community to provide education, entertainment and exposure to cultural experiences. The objective for the organization is to become a resource for both the residents and businesses of the greater Canton area and to enrich the cultural depth and education of the community at large. The Canton Community Theatre strives to encourage community based cultural development and creative expression, as well as to provide entertainment for the community as a whole.

The Old Stoughton Musical Society was originally founded in 1786 and is the oldest continuous operating choral society in America according to the Guinness Book of World Records. It's roots go back to 1762.

The Open Book Coffeehouse is a non-profit venue offering wide variety of acoustic music, including folk, singer/songwriter, jazz, blues, bluegrass and Irish music since 2006. Performers have included such artists as Lisa Yves, The Short Sisters, Matt and Shannon Heaton, Mad Agnes, Susie Burke and David Surette, Barnaby Bright, Jed Marum, and City of Roses. Concerts generally take place on the third Saturday of each month at the Canton Public Library.
